Want to study in Canada?

Step 1: Applying for a tourist visa

You should prepare all required documents before submitting the visa application. Make sure that you will not miss any important information. If you’re eligible, you need to submit additional documents. The extra documents you need to submit depends on your situation. Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, you also need to meet the COVID‑19 travel exemption and criteria for a visitor visa.  If you pass the identity check, health assessment, and meet the entry requirements, the border services officer may stamp your passport or let you know how long you can stay in Canada. You’re allowed to stay in Canada for up to 6 months.

In some cases, the officer may limit or extend your time in Canada, depending on the purpose of your visit.

Step 2: Going to Canada

Once your visa is granted, it is time you should think about the plan to visit Canada. It depends on your schedule, so be prepared and pick the best time for your trip. You may need to bring documents that you submitted with your visa application or present additional documents to the border services officer on arrival in Canada. Again, when you arrive, the officer will check your identity to make sure that you’re the same person who was approved to travel to Canada. They will also ask to see your ArriveCAN receipt and quarantine plan if needed. In addition, they will assess your health before you leave the port of entry so If you’re a foreign national and you have symptoms of COVID-19, you won’t be allowed to enter Canada.

Step 3: Changing your visitor visa to study permit

If you are already in Canada, you can change your visitor visa to a study permit. This period takes time, and you can apply for a study permit after entering Canada if you:

  • Completed a short-term course or program of study that is a prerequisite to their enrolling at a Designated Learning Institution (DLI)
  • Have a spouse or parents who have a valid Study Permit or Canadian Work Permit
  • Visiting or exchange students studying at a DLI

Some exceptions may apply. For example, you do not need a study permit if you are attending a program of six months or less.
