1.IRCC promises to process Express Entry applications within 6 months
In the past few months, applicants for Express Entry had been waiting for an average of over 20 months to finalize their permanent residence applications. However, IRCC has recently announced that they will start processing the Express Entry applications within 6 months. The new announcement will take effect when IRCC opens the draw for the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) and Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) again this July.
IRCC has suspended the CEC invitations since September 2021. However, the race for the Canada Permanent Resident applications is finally back on track this early July. The main reason for IRCC to normalize the permanent residence process once again is to reach the Government of Canada’s Immigration Levels Plan for 2021-2023. Canada targets to welcome 411,000 new permanent residents in 2022 and 421,000 in 2023.

2. PGWP: A road to becoming Canada Permanent Resident through Express Entry
After graduating from an institution on the DLI list, you will be eligible for applying for the Post-Graduate Work Permit (PGWP). If you gain enough Canadian work experience, then you will have a chance to become a Permanent Resident in Canada through the Express Entry program.
Step 1: Prepare what you need
– Electronic copies of your documents
– Valid credit or debit card to pay the fees
Step 2: Go through the instruction guide carefully (Guide 5580- Applying for a Work Permit – Student Guide – online application)
Step 3: Prepare the answers for the online tool: before uploading the forms, you must answer the questions that the Government of Canada created on their website. Based on your answers, you will get the personalized document checklist
Step 4: Understand the fees you need to pay: at the end of the application, you will be asked to pay the application fees. Please make sure to pay for both the work permit holder and the work permit fees. The current fee in 2022 is $ 255 CAD
Step 5: In order to apply online, you will need to create an online account. With your account, you can pay your fees, submit the application and check your status.

4. How to change your Visitor Visa to Study Permit in Canada
Visitors inside Canada who wish to apply for a study visa (Study permit) will have to complete a short-term course or program of study that is a prerequisite to their enrolling at a Designated Learning Institution (DLI).

- Pay the fee for the study permit extension
- Submit your biometrics. Once you’ve paid the application fee, you’ll need to submit fingerprints and a photo of your face (biometrics). You can do this at a biometric collection service point in Canada or in some cases, at a visa application center (VAC) outside of Canada.
- Fill out the study permit application form (Study Permit Extension IMM 5709)
- Attach documents: proof of acceptance into an educational institution, proof that you have enough money to support yourself while you’re studying in Canada (~$10,000 CAD for a stronger case), any police certificates that might be needed, and medical exam results (if required).
- After submitting your application for a study permit online or by mail, wait until you receive confirmation from IRCC before leaving Canada if you plan to travel outside of the country during the process.
