Overview Canada Express Entry in 2022

Canada’s Immigration Minister Sean Fraser has confirmed that the Express Entry draws for the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and Canadian Experience Class will resume giving invitations to apply for permanent residency starting July 6, 2022. This means that the IRCC will begin processing applications under all three immigration programs that have been halted since 2020 due to the pandemic.

Based on the 2022-2024 Immigration Plans released by IRCC, Canada aims to welcome a total of 431,645 new residents in 2022 through different immigration categories including Express Entry, which is created to welcome skilled immigrants to Canada.

What is Express Entry?

According to canada.ca, Express Entry is a point-based system the government of Canada developed and used to manage immigration applications from skilled workers. The applicants earn points based on age, skills, education, language ability, work experience, and provincial nominations.

Once eligible for an Express Entry program, create and submit your profile, and it will be ranked on the pool using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). The IRCC draws Express Entry invites for applicants with the highest CRS scores to apply for immigration.

How does Express Entry work?

Step 1: Find out if you are eligible to apply for Express Entry Programs.

Check your eligibility here.

There are three immigration programs managed in this system:

  1. Canadian Experience Class (CEC)applicants who have gained at least one year or 1,560 hours of skilled work experience (NOC 0, A, B) in Canada under temporary resident status with authorization to work within the last three years.

  1. Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) – applicants with at least one year or 1,560 hours of continuous foreign work experience (NOC 0, A, B) within the last ten years.

  1. Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)applicants with at least two years of Canadian or foreign work experience (NOC B) within the last five years.

These three immigration programs of Express Entry have different eligibility requirements. Primary eligibility requirements include:

  • Age
  • Education
  • Language Ability
  • Type of Level Work Experience
  • Length of Work Experience
  • Valid Job Offer *for FSTP

Step 2: Once eligible, check and assess your score.

A comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is used to evaluate, score, and rank your profile in the Express Entry pool. To be invited, the applicant must score above the minimum CRS points set on every round of invitations. Check your estimate score using the CRS tool.

Step 3: Prepare your documents.

Check documents for Express Entry profile and application for permanent residence here.

Step 5: Receive an invitation and submit your application.

If you rank the highest scores in the pool, you will receive an invitation to apply. The applicant has 60 days only to complete and submit an application for permanent residency.
