IRCC improving the immigration processing time in 2022 to support the economy and speed up the labor shortage in the country
IRCC started improving Immigration processing time 2022
IRCC started improving immigration processing time in 2022. Immigration is the engine that drives the Canadian economy, addressing labor shortages and keeping Canadian communities thriving. Throughout the pandemic, newcomers have been critical in addressing some of our most severe labor shortages, including on the front lines. However, delay in immigration processing time has caused frustration for those attempting to come to Canada to work or reunite with their families.

1. Investment to increase capacity to improve immigration processing time
The Government of Canada proposed
$85 million in new funding to reduce application inventories in the Economic
and Fiscal Update 2021. The investment will support additional staff, allowing Canada to welcome people who can help address labour shortages and to return to
processing service standards in various programs by the end of this year,
including for study permits, work permits and permanent resident card renewals.
Government is also working to reduce the time it takes to process visitor visas and
proof of citizenship.
2. IRCC’s plan to improve immigration processing time
Over 500,000 permanent residency applications were decided by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) in 2021. According to Immigration minister Sean Fraser, by the first quarter of 2022, Canada plans to make 147,000 permanent residency final decisions, more than double the number from the same period in 2021. In February 2022, Canada will launch a new Permanent Residence Application Tracker for spouses and dependents, allowing applicants to check the status of their applications online.
Internal IRCC documents have revealed that the department’s actual projected processing times for economic immigration programs are significantly longer than what is stated on the government website in recent weeks. In the coming months, Canada will update the online processing times tool to provide IRCC clients with more up-to-date estimates of how long it will take to process applications, according to Fraser.

3. Proposed immigration processing timeline by IRCC
IRCC has employed roughly 500 new processing personnel, digitized applications, and shifted work among IRCC locations throughout the world in response to pandemic-related problems.
Since public health precautions have curtailed in-person services, the Immigration and Refugee Commission (IRCC) has moved several paper-based immigration programs online. The online application gateway is expected to be completely operational in the spring or summer of 2022, according to IRCC. Also, these initiatives have allowed typical processing times for spousal sponsorship applicants to revert to the 12-month service standard for new applications.
